When it comes to annual event, what is the best domain to be used? By including the year 2008 after the domain (yes, someone may already registered wcit.com), it is therefore a must to register a new name wcit2009 next year. New domain means you have to start all over again and build your ranking in search engine again! To solve this, if you are using a Blog, you can create categories like 2007, 2008, 2009, etc and assign your post respectively.
This is adopting the “Short-term Strategy for Long-term Failure ;-)
That’s why no matter how many billions of ringgit you give these clowns, they will use them up in these inefficient advertising.
Well, what do they care? It’s the tax-payers money anyway.
Looking on the brightside, at least they might not be holding the event in 2009, hence the wcit2008.org
Bill boards only create exposure…not impact.
It’s no longer dynamic like blogs and costly. If any problem to occur such as this wcit.com , it would only lead to mis-information to the public.
Some of them don’t bother to know.. some of them don’t want to know, because if they do, they’d be slapping their own face and throw away a chance to gain big bucks.
To counter the suggestion:-
1. Domain names are cheap nowadays. Who cares about RM50 (or less) when the budget is in 5-6 digit for the web project?
2. Different year event might be run/owned by different entities/companies, so, domain ownership transfer might not of the best interest to involved parties. It all depends on content & structure ownership agreement between site developer, event manager and organizing company. History matters.
3. Sometimes it’s a good idea to have separate domains as to remove direct relations to separate events/managements to compare them. After all, you have tons of different domains yourself for each distinct (or not-so-distinct) topic.
Interesting, who should be the right party to pay for the renewal of those domain names in the future? Interesting!
